When did you become involved with LMSA? What encouraged you to become part of LMSA?
LMSA’s mission of supporting Latinos through medical school and advocating for the health and social needs of Latino communities is very close to my heart, and was what first attracted me to the organization in 2008, when my school first began its chapter.

What do you expect to accomplish this year as Membership Chair?
I want to build LMSA’s membership across the Northeast region. I think the first step in that is strengthening the ties between existing chapters and helping small chapters grow in size and activity. The second part of building regional membership is expansion to other schools. With the help of the new membership committee, I hope to have at least one active member at every medical school in the northeast by next year, and an active chapter at every school by 2013. I would also like to increase LMSA’s presence in Maryland and New England, and to make Latinos in isolated parts of the region feel connected to and supported by a large network of students.

Career Goals:
As a first year medical student, it’s difficult to say with any precision or certainty what I want to do with my career, but as of now, I want to go into primary care, teach, and eventually go into health policy.

Hobbies:
Reading, biking and rock climbing. I have also been training in traditional Japanese Aiki Jiu-Jitsu since high school, and currently hold the rank of ni-kyu, or brown belt.
